Holiday Park Hamburg - The city’s history dates back to 808, when the emperor Karl the Great allowed the construction of a palace called Hammaburg by the large river 
Elbe.  The city has since been conquered, destroyed, and burned several times, but each time it has managed to rise again.  In the latter half of the 19^th century, the city had developed to one of Europe’s most important trading towns, and had a great deal of traffic across the Atlantic Ocean.
 
Holiday Park Hamburg - During The Cold War, the iron curtain was situated just 50km east of Hamburg, which hindered its development. After the German reunification in 1990, Hamburg has once again begun to flourish. Amongst other things, the town is characterised by the numerous canals that define the townscape.  More than 2,000 bridges help to connect the town – but the two tunnels under the Elbe are the most famous. There is a large collection of theatres and museums in Hamburg, which is also known for its town hall and for the magnificent Saint Michaelis Church.
 
Holiday Park Hamburg - The Reeperbahn town district has developed into an attraction itself, and it is a very popular location for evening walks. Here you will find many theatres and pubs – and in 1960, four young men from Liverpool who called themselves "The Beatles" played at two of these: Indra Club and Kaiserkeller.  Hagensbechs Tierpark, the city's large zoological garden, is definitely also worth a visit while you stay in one of the comfortable holiday rentals in Hamburg.
 
Holiday Park Hamburg - In 1933, Karl Lagerfeld was born in the city, but in 1953 he emigrated to Paris, the fashion capital of the world. Here, he worked for fashion houses such as Chloé, Fendi and Chanel – and also found the time to launch his own brand, Karl Lagerfeld, which consists of perfumes and clothes.
