Holiday Park Midi-Pyrénées
Holiday Park Midi-Pyrénées - Midi-Pyrénées cover an area of about 45,000 square kilometres in the central part of Southern France. The region’s name means ”In the Middle of the Pyrénées", but even though the large mountain range dominates the southern part of the region, there are also plenty of other things to see.
Holiday Park Midi-Pyrénées - The capital is Toulouse, which was founded over 2,000 years ago when the Romans conquered the area. Even then, Toulouse was a large city, but in the 18th and 19th centuries industrialisation did not spread to the town and it therefore lost influence and importance. Today, this has the reverse effect since the town is free of many environmental problems that exist in large industrialised cities – and in the second half of the 20th century, information technology brought a tremendous boost to the city.
Holiday Park Midi-Pyrénées - Toulouse is now France’s fourth largest city and plays such an important role in the Midi-Pyrénées that is often described as "an oasis in the desert" - a reference to the sparsely populated areas around the town. Toulouse is without comparison Europe’s aviation and space travel capital. Here you can find the headquarters for the aeroplane manufacturer Airbus, as well as its largest factory, just outside the city’s airport. Many of the aeroplane models that Airbus produces are assembled here, including the super jumbo A380.
Holiday Park Midi-Pyrénées - Midi-Pyrénées is one of the French regions that does not have a coast line. On the other hand, its location between Aquitaine and Languedoc-Roussillon, means that you are only a few hours drive from both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. One also has access to some of France's largest and best wine districts that are found on both sides of Midi-Pyrénées.
Holiday Park Midi-Pyrénées - From Toulouse there are only 90 kilometres to the beautiful Carcassonne, which is located in Languedoc-Roussillon. The Romans founded the town more than two thousand years ago. As time passed, tall walls were erected around it and now the town mostly resembles a fortress. The fantastic medieval buildings in Carcassonne are recognised by UNESCO as a part of the world's cultural heritage. It is definitely worth the inconvenience of setting a day aside to arrange an outing to this region.
